Nuts Rumored to Scratch Tim Dionne for Championship Games !

A reliable source informed the Hockey News that Nuts leading scorer, Tim Dionne, will be a healthy scratch for the Championship games Tuesday and Wednesday night. This is an unbelievable move by the Nuts hockey organization. Dionne has been a great on ice coach and point getter all season. What is going on? The pressure is mounting in what looks to be unstable times for the Nuts hockey club at the wrong time of the season.

Tim Dionne played 8 games through the 08/09 season. He had only 2 penalty minutes, scored 4 goals, 7 helpers and lead all the Nuts with 11 points. The team is clearly going Nuts!

Playoff Game #3 Slayers vs Ranch

Slayers battle back after giving up the first goal to El Rancho Sunday night to win the game 4-1. The Ranch played hard, but the Slayers D controlled the pace, allowing the forwards to get pucks on Parker. Dale had a wicked strong game between the pipes. Game MVP goes to Drew F-ing Barber with the equalizer and game winner.

Congrats to the Ranch who earned a chance at the Slayers by snuffing out Fire and Ice earlier in the week. So sweet! Way to go guys, thanks for the great battle.

Rink Rumors: The Nuts will show on Tuesday to play...or will they?

Slayers Rumors: Driver had his mouth washed out with a bar of soap after the game. Why? Curse words of course. All Slayers have taken an oath they will only take "good" penalties, no dumb ones. An empty sin bin the rest of the way for the Slayers.

Playoff Game #2 Slayers vs Nuts

Slayers controled the play, but allowed the sweaty Nuts to slip one past the goalie in the dying seconds of the game. Slayers loss 3-2 to the Cryoneers. As end-of-the-game handshakes commenced, each Nuts player was told, with conviction, they would see the Slayers again Tuesday and Wednesday for the Championship games. The Slayers play the Ranch next (see next post for outcome).

Rink Rumor: If the Slayers beat the Ranch to move on to the Championship games, players for the Nuts have stated the team will forfeit the game. Can Mackay and Altree keep the team from imploding? Will the Nuts book tee times Tuesday night instead of playing hockey? Will Justin finally catch a damn trout? We will have to see. F-N eh! Rock the bloody red!

Playoff Game #1 Slayers vs Cheapskates

Your San Juan Slayers won the Presidents trophy for the 2008/2009 season. 12 wins, 5 losses and 1 tie for 25 points, edging out Fire on Ice who ended the regular season with 24 points.

The Slayers started the playoffs against Cheapskates last Sunday night. Remember it was the Cheap who beat the Slayers last season during the "game 7" championship game. Dale earned his 3rd shutout of the season and Dan Driver was named game MVP for his big-time hustle and killer goal. The Slayers won 4-0. It was a sweet victory for sure with all the Slayers, both D and forwards clicking.

The Slayers move on to face the Nuts tonight at 6:45 at Chapman Hill. Rock the bloody red!

Cartwright Turns Cuckoos Into a Pile of Boneless, Skinless Chicken Chunks

The Slayers were down 3-0 in the third period. They had their chances, but the Cuckoo's D and strong play by the goalie kept the Slayers off the score board. With about 7 minutes and some change remaining on the clock Drew-F-ing Barber found the back of the net. 'Finally!' the team was thinking as they cheered their first goal of the game. Then moments later the birds score a beautiful goal from Trevor G to Joe Peters.

Now down 4-1 and with the clock ticking, the Slayers are once again dejected. Bolton unleashed a rash of insults who was trying to fire up his dejected teammates. He even threaten the team with a level 5 demotion that stirred a bees nest in Brian's brezzers that started a wild change of events that will surely become Durango hockey legend. With only minutes remaining, the Slayers continued to battle and put an injured and angered Brian Cartwright on the ice. Emotionally fueled and fired-up Brian found the back of the net quickly with an off-angled wrister. The goal is credited to hard work in the Bird's end and Brian being in the right place.

On the very next rush Brian was carrying the puck through the crease, then tripped up by a Bird defenseman, he dives and pushes the puck past the extended skate of the Bird's goalie. The ice started to tilt. A minute later a break out pass by Cuckoos was knocked down, passed to Brian who buried it for the hat trick. Incredible! This was all done in one shift! The ice must look like a vertical wall in front of the Cuckoos goalie at this point. Then seconds later, during the same shift, Brian is chucked in the box for a hard check on Trevor G. At the face-off, the Birds call a time out to try to regroup. Then on their first rush, with the score tied 4-4, they nearly put one past Dale. Instead the puck goes wide and the Slayers break out, marching down toward the Cuckoo's goalie. However, fresh on the ice and in an odd position, Kev Kolb knocks down a Bird. As Brian exits the sin bin, Kevin is ushered in to serve his time.

Sitting in the box, Kevin can just watch as his team is a man down again with less than 12 seconds remaining. The Slayers dump the puck, Jordan grabs it and sends it around the boards, it slides to Brian who wrists his fourth goal of the game and gets the game winner. The Slayer's bench erupts. There is only 2.7 seconds remaining in the game. An incredible ending to a crazy game.

Brian did inform Blanchard that he was going to score 4 goals that night, and that was before they stepped on the ice. Who would have thunk he would have scored them the way he did. A raised glass to Brian. Cheers! What will he bring for the last game of the season and the playoffs? Stay tuned.

Slayers vs Ranch Battle to a 1-1 Tie

The Slayers gave the Ranch their first point of the season in what turned out to be a great battle. Both teams skated pretty hard, but the Ranch wanted it pretty bad. The Ranch had many great chances down low, but Dale stoned them on all but one of the opportunities. The refs did a good job in the game. (there was one Slayer goal that was called back as a no goal) Thanks Kyle and Jim, job well done.

Players from both teams pleaded with Jim to put his whistle in his pocket. At least for a minute or two...please!!!!!

The Slayers and Sweaty Nuts gave-er hell last Saturday night. The Nuts played hard to a 5-2 win over the Slayers. The ice tilted more than a carny ride at the county fair for both teams. The first period was won by the Nuts, the second was won by the Slayers and the third...well, let's just say the ref(s) wanted in on the action. I'm sure the refs viewed it one way, but the Slayers and Nuts did not feel the game was chippy or cheap. As the whistle continued to sing, players from both teams would come and go from the box like it was City Market at 5:10 on a Friday evening. To say the least, both teams were stunned. It has been reported that the hinges on both doors of the sin bins were replaced shortly after the game. Revolving doors would have made it a lot easier for Jaimee as she tried in vain to keep track of PIMs in the score keepers booth. So, to make a long story longer; there was good hockey (at times), there were over 20 penalties called in the game and there was a great BBQ after the game.

As for the BBQ, a big thanks is in order to all of you that brought beer, burgers, chips and snacks. And a big high-5 to Robin for the deep fried french fried potato's! As always they were so damn tasty. The quote of the night goes to buzz-saw Brit. After a big burger, a fist full of fries and 10 shotgunned beers later, it was decided it was time to head home. So Brit gathered up his kid, a toy General Lee (it made Dukes of Hazard sounds) and his vintage garb and headed for the mini van. As it turns out his incredibly patient wife was not ready...Brit stumbles back up to the crowd yelling "I can do one more shotgun because my wife is nursing the baby, who's in? Give me a beer? Drew? Robin? Come on, one more!"

Dale's shutout and the Slayers scoring was too much for the Cuckoos team to handle. Scoring was lead by Scott, Cory and Tommy. Tommy had an impressive game and nearly grabbed the hat trick. The D played equally well, keeping the Birds in the hen house and away from Dale. Of the shots that did get in on net, Dale deflected to the boards or covered up. Great game...that is if you like your grilled poultry blackened.

Goal Posts Rushed to Urgent Care!

Chapman Hill goal posts were rushed off to urgent care after El Rancho goalie Eric Parker sliced the goals off the moorings with his skate blade. Suffering from massive bleeding and weakened welds the post spent the night in the ICU.

Late in the 3rd, with the score tied at 3-3, a goal was scored by the Slayers but the net was knocked off by the Ranch goalie. The goal was called back. Karma kicked in moments later; the Slayers netted two goals in the last 2 minutes of the game to win 5-3 on Wednesday night.

Not even help from above was going to get Cheapskates past the red-hot Slayers this past Saturday night.

The Cheap scored a trickler past Dale in the 1st period, but the Slayers roared back with 5 unanswered goals in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Drew-f-ing-Barber started things off for the Slayers going coast to coast and finishing with a hard low shot beating the Cheap goalie far side. Richard slammed home the game winner mid way through the 2nd and the rest was hard Slayer play and more stellar goaltending from Womack.

Slayers are 16 goals for and 4 against in the first 3 games of the 09 season. With these impressive numbers, it has ben reported that even Tonya is choking on tape balls. See you and the rest of your sweaty nuts soon.

Slayers beat the Birds 5-1 last Wednesday night at the Chapman Hill Ice Arena. Strong showing by all the Slayers. Scott Simmons of the Slayers found a way to frustrate net-minder Peter with his extra sneaky roll'em-up-nice-n-slow-off-the-back shots.

Thanks to Scotty at the Summit for having the Slayers out for the Summit's x-mas party. Also a big thanks to guest bartenders Muff and Matty. They had this amazing knack for never allowing the pint glass to go dry.

Thanks to Richard, Holly and the rest of the Leavitt's for another great winter Solstice party. Good friends, warm bonfire, cold beers, yummy grub and good times. Cheers.

Slayers Sign Tim Heinle and Beat Ranch 6-2 in season opener

So can the Cheapskates find a replacement for the human brick in net? Rumors from Grand Junction report former goalie stonewall jackson has recommended two winos, an eight year old figure skater and a tape ball as comparable replacements.

Slayers drop "game 7" 0-2 to a determined Cheapskates squad lead by the solid play of net minder SWJ. The Slayers kept the game close, but the wheels had fallen off and scoring chances were far few between. Kyle buried a great shot late in the 2nd period to seal the deal. The Slayers could not get back into the game. Dale played very strong in the losing effort. So, with our glasses help high in the air, our hats are off to the entire Cheapskates team. Cheers guys. Congrats to the Cheapskate's protector of the net, the blue liners, the forwards, the coaching staff and the entire Cheapskates organization. You guys were a class act this entire season and speaking for the entire Slayer organization, you guys were a blast to battle game in and game out. Win and Lose. Again, CONGRATS!

Between the hustle of the forwards, strong play of the blueliners and play of Dale Wallmac, the Slayers earn a chance to take the Championship Sunday evening at 5:30. The Slayers know the Cheapskates will bring everything they have and it will be a great game between the two teams.

Slayers Snuff Fire And Ice 3-1

Like physical hockey? Well that is what Slayer fans enjoyed Saturday night as the Slayers put the hose to a chippy Fire and Ice team with a solid win. Fire and Ice player, Joe Petters, had a chance to get his team within one with a minute fourty remaining, but the solid defensive play of Drew-Fing-Barber forced the play wide of Dale. All the Slayers played a solid game, but Mike Davis had a stealer game. He skated soooo smoooth his teammates were surprised roses were not cascading over the glass in appreciation of his performance. Way to go Mike, we are very proud of you buddy. This win sets up a rematch with Cheapskates for the Championship on Sunday morning at 11am. We'll see you in the AM Stoney.

Slayers Live to See Another Day! Shock Collar the Puppies 4-3 in OT

Slayers 4 Dawgs 3 (OT)

The Slayers playoff hopes are still alive as they eliminated the Old Dawgs Sunday afternoon.

The Slayers, playing a like hung-over arm-less grannies pulled off an amazing win against the Old Dawgs despite looking tired and not all that together for a better part of the game. The Dawgs controlled most of what was a spirited game between two teams who enjoy playing each other. Paul Wilson, the Dawgs goalie, made a number of amazing saves, including one from Tommy that smacked his face mask and shot straight up. The puck then landed back on Tommy's stick and he let her rip and clanged the post. The Dawgs had a commanding 3 to 1 lead till the Slayers found the back of the net in the 3rd period. With the score 3 to 2 the Dawgs had a couple untimely penalties (Tonya!) and the Slayers made the puppies pay. Later in the 3rd period, on the PP, the Slayers battled and scored with 6.7 seconds remaining forcing overtime! What a turn of events. The Dawgs were slack jawed in amazement as their commanding lead had evaporated. With the game on the line the Slayers battled hard in the first minute of over-time. With only a minute and forty seconds into the OT the Slayers won a key offensive face-off and with the determined play of Blanchard on the short side the cource of history would change forever.

With Altree draped all over him, Blanchard tried to bank a shot off Wilson's shoulder or noggin but it hit Altree's stick at the same time and the puck flipped up onto the top of the net and bounced twice on the cross bar before falling back behind the goal to the right of Wilson. The puck bounced from Blanchard's arm, then to his thigh, then stick, then the ice. The puck continued to bounce and Altree continued to mug Blanchard. Blanchard spied a semi open Kevin Kolb and hacky sacked the puck out of the air with his right skate to him in front of the net. Kev made two moves pulled the puck back and then buried it past Wilson for the game winner in OT! All while having three sticks trying to contain him. Kevin, showed incredible pacience. What a goal! The team erupted. It had looked as though the Slayers were done, but they reached deep and found a way to win. FUKENEH!

Slayers 2 Cheapskates 5

Slayers notched the first goal of the game then bumbled their way through the 2nd and 3rd periods in what turned out to be a pathetic showing against Cheapskates. SWJ, Kyle and Will brought their A games along with the rest of the Cheapskates team. The Cheapos out played the Slayers in the 2nd and 3rd with hard play and pretty goals. The Slayers did get a goal late in the game but there was not enough time to change the momentum. Stoney looked strong making a few key saves. See you guys in the finals.

Slayers look to rebound today against the Puppies. Puck drops at 4:14 Sunday April 20th.

Slayers Take Presidents Trophy with Win Against Cheapskates

Slayers vs Cheapskates: W 3-1

A rare evening game turned out to be a bit on the crazy side with disallowed goals, dinged posts, missing ref whistles and a bundle of fans in the stands. This was the Slayers last regular season game and a win would reward the team with a by in the first round of the playoffs, the Presidents Trophy for the most points in the regular season and beer. Lots of beer. (I still feel ill). The Slayers jumped out to an early lead and was able to hold it together the rest of the game for the win. Dale made some key saves only allowing one past him. Landon, the Stone Wall allowed three goals and like Dale made some killer saves. One stand out save by SWJ that had the crowd roaring was a save on Blanchard who flicked a wrister at point blank range. The Cheapskates could not penetrate the Slayers zone with speed with most of their plays dissolving due to the grinding play of the Slayers. Great game and the Slayers hope to see the Cheapskates again in the playoffs.

The Slayers welcomed back Kevin Kolb after missing a couple games due to illness. His left ear is still jacked up and he can not hear out of it so well. When asked if it affected his game he said, "What? Oh, no because I played on the left wing." MIAs Harper, Brian.

Goalies: Dale for the Slayers. Dale finished the regular season with an impressive 7 wins and only 2 loses. He posted one shut out. His goals against average is right at 2.50. Stone Wall was in the net for Cheapskates.

Dale Womack Stands On His Head...Slayers Beat Ranch 2-0

Dale, Double 00s, stole the show with an impressive shutout. Dale was in perfect possition for every shot the Ranch put on him. Toe saves, blocker saves, shoulder saves and no rebounds was the key to Womacks game. Mike Davis of the Slayers had an impressive night as well with two goals. About time. Both teams were short on the bench. Despite just one sub the Slayers prevailed. Drew-F-ing-Barber the iron man skated the entire game. He ended the game with a nasty hit on the blue line with the El Rancho's Floorshow. In Drew fashion he stood back up with a big ass grin. FUKENEH Barber.

Coach Brian has missed 2 games due to a smashed and broken finger but will make the Sunday game. He was on the bench calling lines, oh yea, no he just just yelled at us because there were not enough players to call lines. Cory and Dan MIA, Reeshard missed the game due to parental duties, Kevin missed his 2nd game in row due to an infection or something. Slayers should be intact on Sunday when they face the Cheapskates.

A solid game by the Dogs, but the Slayers owned the 3rd period and won the game 5 to 2. Jim was held pointless, but their new acquisition Shawn Fergusson had a strong first game with his new club.

The Slayers equipment manager helped Scott Simmons find his jock strap. Yep jock strap. This missing cup was misplaced not once but twice. Both times the missing jimmy protector was found in the arena parking lot. Weird and mysterious for sure. Being very attached to his equipment, he is very pleased to have it back. Scott, sure beats tapping the cup on with sock tape eh?

And it was rumored that Will's girlfriend from BC was on hand to watch the game. She was not there after the game and was believed to be make believe. Richard did meet her, but the rest of the team is calling BS. Truth be known, she had heard how crazy and stinky the Slayers are post game.

Slayers allowed the first goal of the game scored by Brian Davies. Then the Slayers started to ramp it up and finished the game 5-2. Big night for Scott-the deke master-Simmons. He pounded in the first three goals and added a helper later in the game. Mike Davis recorded his first assist (helper) of the season by fetching the puck out from behind the Cuckoos goalie after Scott's 2nd goal and then handed the puck to referee John Gardner. Way to go Mike!

Brian Cartwright's 5-point night frustrates Ranch: Slayers 7 Ranch 3

A fiesty game between the Slayers and Ranch ended with a 7-3 win for the Slayers. The Slayers played their style of game, frustrating the Ranch most of the night. Lots of action on both sides of the ice in a physical game. The first period was full of great saves from both Dale and El Rancho's goalie, Eric Parker. Persistant play and solid goaltending from Dale made this an easy game for the Slayers. Brian nearly having a Gordy Howe hat trick, set the tone of the game with a 5 point night. The 3rd period was a penalty fest for both teams. Like most games between the Ranch and Slayers, it was enteraining for sure.

Slayers were pleased to have Mike Davis back on the ice after missing 5 weeks due to a knee injury.
The 3rd goal scored by the Ranch late in the 3rd did count, however after the game was over it was pointed out to the refs that the net was indeed off its moorings allowing the puck to slip under the goal, rather than going in.

Slayers Stoned By Stonewall Jackson: Slayers 2 Cheapskates 5

Slayers had one or two goals waved off in game they never got a handle on. One puck was waved off by the ref at center ice due to a crease issue, but the ref down deep near the play did not dispute the other ref. That damn Jiffy Pop ceiling blinding those refs again and just at the wrong time. It was brought up after the game, beers in hand, that another might have slipped in behind Landon but knothing came of it...whatever, the Slayers were sloppy in their own zone. They did look ok in nuetral ice and were pretty good in the Cheapskate's end of the ice. But it was Stonewall Jackson shutting the door. Landon only allowed two goals. He, along with the rest of his team were sharp. Slayers 2 Cheap 5.

Slayers Ballpark Party Sunday-Fun Day Party!

Big thanks to all our friends, family and the staff at the Ballpark for a great party last Sunday. Cold beer, speed gun recorded slap shots, beer, arm wrastlin', beer, shots, foosball, beer, billards and good times. Slayers Party @ Ballpark Sports Bar 5pm Sunday March 9th

Come hang with your San Juan Slayers and watch the Colorado Avalanche on a giant big screen at the Ballpark this Sunday. The game between the Avs and Dallas Stars starts at 5pm and the beer will flow cold and cheap.

The Ballpark Sports Bar is located next to Office Depot. We'll have a slapshot contest with the speed gun and an accuracy skills competition on the patio. We'll provide the classic wooden sticks.

Slayers burn Fire and Ice: Slayers 5 Fire and Ice 1

Fire and Ice jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but the Slayers found their legs and ended the first period 2-1. The ice tilted toward the Fire and Ice net most of the game. A goal from Scott and 2 from Richard set the tone. The game was locked up mid way through the 3rd when Cory nailed in a shorty while Will sat in the sin bin. Later in the period Will put an end to Fire and Ice by kicking the chair out from under them with the 5th goal fof the game. The Slayers ended with a score of 5-1.

Slayers Hen Pecked by The Birds: Slayers 3 Cuckoos 4

Slayers lose Tuesday Feb 26th to the Chicken House. It was a great game but the Slayers had a hard time getting it past the Birds comp goalie Peter Gasigna. The Slayers battled hard and had numerous scoring chances down low late in the 3rd but NHL level goalie Peter stood on his head keeping the puck out from the back of the net. The Slayers were able to get one past him in the 3rd, but could not get the equalizer to send the game into OT. The Slayers are 1-1 for the spring 08 season.

Scott Simmons Voted MVP by his Slayers Teammates

Due to Scott's work ethic, tenatious playing style and his ability to score timely goals earned him MVP for the Winter 08 season voted by his teammates. Way to go Scott!

Slayers Kickoff Spring Season vs Old Dawgs: Slayers 7 Dawgs 5

Just as the last drop of the champagne was sucked out of the cup, your division 2 champions hit the ice against the Old Dawgs Tuesday night. The Slayers, like the the Old Dawgs were skating a short bench due to injuries, travel and the flu. The game was a high scoring affair despite each team having just a couple subs on the bench. The Slayers jumped to a 6-2 lead in the 2nd period, but sat back a bit in the 3rd. With the hard determined play of Brit Eaton the Dawgs climbed back into the game and was within 2 goals late in the 3rd period. But the Slayers scored their 7th goal to seal the victory. Both goalies had made some great saves. Most of the goals were from sweet shots or hard play in and around the crease.

Game Notes: Dingo took a high stick to the upper lip in the 2nd period and left the game. He missed just one shift, Drew Barber sat in the box to feel shame. Old Dawgs signed Adam Howell for the Spring 08 Season. Adam brings hustle and a good scoring touch. Paul Wilson was the net minder for the Dawgs and with Dale out with the flu Darrin Ferguson played in goal for the Slayers. Thanks Darrin. Slayers were without Mike, Cory, Brian, Richard and Dale. Dawgs were without Stan, Henry, Jim, Spencer and Frank.

SAN JUAN SLAYERS WINTER 08 CHAMPS! Slayers 2 Cheapskates 0

Last night the Slayers pulled off a hard fought 2-0 win over Cortez. Cheapskates brought their hard work ethic and strong goal tending by Landon Johnson. However, Cheapskates, the best team on paper with an impressive 7-1 record could not find a way to score due to the stellar work of the Slayers blue liners, pesky play of the forwards and the fast glove of goalie Greg Sykes. The game was a chess match of sorts, with both teams getting good scoring chances, but neither team could find the back of the net. Late in the 3rd, with 4:10 remaining Slayers winger Will Blanchard flipped a pass from just inside the blue line to Brian Cartwright who was moving from behind the Cortez net. Brian gloved the puck down, made one deke and scored high on Landon's blocker side. Brian, the fans and the rest of the Slayers erupted with excitement. A few moments later Tommy Van Buskirk sealed the victory by blasting a rebound past Landon on the glove side. With less than 4 minutes remaining the Slayers shut down any play Cortez tried to generate. Once the final seconds ticked by the Slayers flooded the ice celebrating another championship. After the hand shakes and photos the Slayers enjoyed a couple beers, a couple pizzas at Just Bo's all washed down by a couple more beers and Crown Royal. Spoils to the victors eh?

Game Notes: This was the Slayers 3rd consecutive Championship.
Mike Davis left the ice midway through the 3rd due to a dislocated knee. Slayers activated goalie Greg Sykes to replace Dale who has been hammered by the flu. Thanks again Greg, you were a big help and it was great having you play with us. Greg made 17 saves on 17 shots for the shutout. Cheapskates had Landon Johnson in the net who played very well. Coach Jeff Watson was on the bench for the Slayers. Big thanks to all the families and friends who came out and supported us.

Slayers and 08 Playoffs

The Slayers last regular season game ended in a tie against Fire and Ice. The tie gave the Slayers a bye in the first round of the playoffs. Slayers ended the season in second place behind Cheapskates with 4 wins, 2 loses and 2 ties.

Championship Game: Sunday 5:30 pm
Slayers vs Cheapskates

Slayers battled a fierce game against Fire and Ice on Saturday night at the Chapman Hill Ice Arena. The two teams went goal for goal the entire game. Late in the 3rd the Slayers had a 3-2 lead until a streaking Mitch Carrier walked in and blasted a high shot past Greg Sykes. Moments later the Slayers were called for a trip (more ref blinding due to the jiffy pop ceiling). With the man advantage Fire and Ice worked hard to get the go-ahead goal. However, their dreams were shattered when Scott Simmons stole the puck in neutral ice with less than 90 seconds remaining. Scott ripped down the far side and buried the puck past Fire and Ice goalie Griz Kelley on the blocker side. The shorty had fans and Slayers alike cheering Scott's wicked shot. With a minute and some change remaining, Fire And Ice remained on the power play and nearly tied the game with 24 seconds left. However, the solid play from the Slayers blue-liners and a timely back check from Simmons kept most of the play to the outside. That was until a nice pass found a Fire and Ice player down low breaking fast to the net. Diving through the crease Dan Driver poked the puck off the Fire and Ice players stick just as he was about to unload a point blank shot. The Slayers continued to force the rest of the play to the boards and earned the 4-3 win. With the win, the Slayers now move on to face Cheapskates in the Championship game.

Game Note: Slayers skated without Cory Harper and Dale Womack. Greg Sykes played between the pipes for the flu infected Womack. Thanks a ton Greg. Fire and Ice was without Jordan due to a shoulder injury.

Slayers Blow It...Loss 4-5 to Cortez in OT

A fun and entertaining game took place between the Slayers and Cortez on Saturday night. A back and forth affair full of hits, goals and strong goal tending. The Slayers had Cortez right were they wanted them after Dan Driver tied the game with about 90 seconds left in the 3rd. Shortly after the goal, Evan, blinded by the bright jiffy pop ceiling, made a questionable call forcing the Slayers a man down in the dying seconds of the 3rd period. A strong Slayer PK forced Over Time. Skating 4 on 3, Cortez forced the puck into the Slayers zone. Kyle Adams from the far side pushed a hard pass through the crease finding Will McGarva. Will had an easy one time tap for the game winner. The Slayers not happy with the end result, drank a couple beers and forgot about it.

Game Note: Dale was between the pipes for the Slayers, Stone Wall was in goal for Cortez. Cortez in now 7-1. They have won their last 7 straight. Slayers skated with out Brian.

Slayers & Ranch Battle: Slayers 4 Ranch 4 Is Justin Woodhen a Stat Slut?

Game Review Below:

Slayers and the Ranch played late last night to a 4-4 tie. Slayers gave up a 3 goal lead in the third period. The Slayers lost their legs late in the game and looked pretty spent in overtime. Slayers were able to withstand the energy and hard play of the Ranch to grab a point. The puck rang off posts on both sides of the ice in both the third and overtime periods. It was a hard fought game that was fairly physical.

Game notes: Justin Woodhen made sure Ash had all the stats in place after the game. He was heard saying he wanted to make sure his team knew he lead in points. Eric Anderson leads the Ranch with time spent in the sin bin. Anderson was ejected from the game in the third period after a harsh cross check/boarding to Blanchard. Durango PD were on hand and joined the four fans that were watching the game. It is unclear at this time if Chapman Hill is going to ban the consumption of donuts at the rink. The Ranch had three fans, possibly who were so smoked out they had no idea where they were. One of the three is believed to be an extra in the film, Planet Of The Apes. It has been rumored the remake of the classic film is being shot in the canyons south of Durango. Dale Womack was between the pipes for the Slayers. Eric Parker in goal for the Ranch. The Slayers did not have Driver and Simmons thanks to the Flu. The Ranch skated without Floorshow.

Slayers send Old Puppies to the Dog House: Slayers 3 Dawgs 2

Game Review Below:

A great battle between the Slayers and Dawgs took place on Tuesday night. The game was played like a chess match, each using their respectable D to quarterback the rush. The Slayers, regrettably, allowed Jimmy Mackay to skate in for two hard shots, both beating Slayers goalie Dale Womack. The Dawgs had a 2-1 lead early in the third, but Cory Harper helped tilt the ice the Slayers way with a nice equalizer against net minder Greg Sykes. The Slayers blue liners held their ground keeping most of the play on the boards. The Dawgs did clink a couple off the post, but the Slayers forwards brought a pesky for check and tenacious cycling that was too much for the Dawgs to handle. Tommy Van Buskirk found the back of the net with a nice shot up and over the shoulder of Sykes for the game winner.

Game notes: Greg Sykes was building up a snow fort around the crease for the Dawgs. Dale "the wall" Womack was between the pipes for the Slayers. Womack recorded his first assist of the season. Richard was unavailable for the Slayers. Dawgs did not have Brit for the game. Slayers were stoked to have Jeff Watson back on the bench.

Slayers/Cuckoos game summary below | Slayers VS Old Dawgs tonght 9:15

Ski-weary legs and sore arms were the story for both teams on Sunday night. After dealing with heavy wet snow that blanked the Southwest both teams hit the ice. Cuckoos found the first goal of the game, but had a hard time getting much else going. Slayers rallied for the equalizer late in the 2nd. After a rather sluggish 2nd period the Slayers found the back of the net 4 more times for the win.

Game notes: The birds welcomed back to the line-up Eric Bekkala. Driver and Barber were unavailable for the Slayers. Cuckoos did not have their main goalie Peter Gasigna.

Slayers vs the birds "Cuckoos" on Sunday January 6th at 6:45 pm

Scott Simmons # 5 (6 points) and Dan Driver # 10 (4 points) will bring their speed and scoring along with the rest of the Slayers team for a game sure to be action packed. The birds have looked strong this season. Can they bring their A game on Sunday? We'll just have to see. The main goal for the Slayers is to offer the birds their first lost of the season. The Slayers welcome back Will Blanchard who has been on a fishing and hockey sojourn in BC. He will play left wing on the Simmons/Driver line.

Brian Davies #14 leads the Cuckoos team with 5 points. The birds have a 2-0-1 record.

We are proud to present the San Juan Slayers blog. This is our web site, pretty much because blog spot is free. Please check back when you can to see what your San Juan Slayers are up to. There will be info on games, photos, where we'll be having a beer and much more. Please click our sponsors and friends links, because with out them, we would have to pay hefty dues...oh we still do. Regardless they help a ton and we thank them all for their support.
